The overflow drain, affectionately called The Morning Glory, works just like the overflow drain in your bathtub. If the reservoir level rises to the top of the overflow drain, the water will run over the drain and into a pipe under the dam. This prevents erosion of the earthen rock dam and flooding of the watershed around the reservoir.
