2. The Beginning of Treatment This is the second stop on the Virtual Tour |
| From Spada Reservoir, the water is piped to the Chaplain Reservoir adjacent to the Water Filtration Plant. Drinking water treatment begins in Chaplain Reservoir where heavy particles settle to the bottom of the reservoir. The water that will flow into the plant is drawn off the top of the reservoir, allowing the sediment to lie undisturbed at the bottom. |

| Before the first dam was built in 1929, Chaplain was a small lake. The dam was constructed to provide more water for the pulp and paper mills in Everett that were using enormous amounts of water. The Chaplain dam was raised in 1941. |
|
| Water from the Chaplain Reservoir is brought into the plant for processing by either a gravity fed pipe that runs though the dam, or it is siphoned by small vacumm pumps through a pipe that runs over the dam. Two pipes allow maintenance to occur on one of the pipes without disruption of service, or in the case of heavy water usage, both pipes can be used to bring in water. |
