This is the sixth stop on the Tour

Filtered water is routed from the filters to the clearwell through the blue pipes.

The clearwell is a rectangular reservoir that is about 25-feet deep. The roof is above ground, but most of it is below ground. The purpose of the clearwell is two-fold.
  1. This is where the disinfectant is mixed with the filtered water before it enters the distribution lines. This is also where flouride and soda ash are added. Without the clearwell we would have to disinfect in the distribution lines, which would cause the water to have a strong disinfectant taste and odor.
  2. The clearwell also acts as a buffer against changes in system demand. Demand for water is not constant, for instance, people use a lot more water during the day than late at night. The clearwell allows us to have a supply of clean water on hand at all times.
