National Night Out is designed to bring residents, law enforcement agencies, community groups and businesses together to celebrate crime prevention awareness while sending a message that crime will not be tolerated in our community.
In 1984, 400 communities in 23 states participated in National Night Out with 2.5 million Americans taking part. The seed had been planted. In subsequent years, participation has grown steadily. In 2006, National Night Out involved 35.2 million people in 11,125 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
This year, hundreds of Everett residents will participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
