Young Master Planners
Children, armed with cameras, help plan a park
In 2012 fifty local English and non-English speaking children were given an opportunity to help create a new master plan for Senator Henry M. Jackson Park. Children involved in a park summer day camp were given cameras and asked to take photos of their favorite park amenities while on a field trip to four area parks and playgrounds. Their master planning ideas, communicated through the lens of a camera, provided insights into the recreational desires of our young park patrons. For example, park amenities that involve group interaction and amenities relating to nature were major themes in the children’s pictures. Many of their ideas were incorporated into the final park design!
